Does rain affect pest control?

If you’ve got a pest issue, and you’ve just paid for a professional to work their magic, the last thing you want is for anything to muck up the process. So, if you’ve had a big downpour after fumigating the exterior of your home, we can understand your nerves at the idea of the treatment being ‘washed’ away.

Thankfully, most houses’ exterior walls are protected by roofs and eaves, meaning that in most cases your treatment will remain fully effective. But what if it’s forecast to rain on the day of, or the day before your pest control professional visits you? Here, we discuss to what extent rain will affect your pest control.

Indoor procedures

Indoor pest control procedures are not at all affected by the rain. You should not worry about cancelling or rescheduling your pest control appointment if you’re booked in for indoor pest control.

Outdoor procedures that aren’t affected by the rain

Many outdoor procedures aren’t affected by the rain. Treatment for some pests only requires a thin layer of spray to your external walls which dries within 10 minutes. So, if it rains 20 minutes later, you’ll be right as rain… pardon the pun.

Termite inspections are another procedure that won’t be affected when it rains. Because no products are being sprayed externally, it’s completely fine to go ahead with a termite inspection in wet weather. Even if active termites were found, the treatment would be appropriate for wet weather too. Termite nests are found in wall or roof cavities (i.e. inside the house), which means the area would be dry and not affected by the rain.

Other treatments actually work better when the weather is wet! Take ant control, for example. When it rains, ants emerge from their nest to escape the moisture. This makes it easier to treat ants because it’s possible to spray them directly and because the ant granules dissolve into the ground, killing the ants located below. There is a range of other pest control treatments that aren’t affected by the rain, so contact Adam’s Pest Control on the day to find out whether your treatment can still go ahead.

Outdoor procedures that may be affected by the rain

That being said, there are a few exceptions to the rule, and sometimes pest control can be affected by the rain. If it has been absolutely bucketing down for days, with heavy winds, then some treatments are worth rescheduling. This should be addressed on a case-by-case basis and it’s best to let your pest control expert decide whether the rain will affect the process. If you’re unsure of whether the rain will affect your treatment, give the team at Adam’s Pest Control a call. If worse comes to worst and your appointment requires rescheduling, they will make it as easy as possible for you and prioritise your needs.
